Shown with typical coffee mug/chair for size Gage. Coffee Mug not included. 
Unsure of wood type. But it is solid. 
Shelf measurements:
5" Tall 20" Wide and Shelf depth is 4". 
Measurements in-between the shelf brackets in the chance you want to install hooks for mugs to hang:
14" Wide 3.25" Depth of under shelf and 4" Tall. 
The shelf thickness is just shy of 3/4".
